St Athan Community Council Grant Scheme

St Athan Community Council is launching its Community Grant Scheme on 1st July 2026.

The scheme has been set up under Section 137 of the Local Government Act 1972, which allows the Council to support activities that are in the direct interest of the local area where no other specific power applies.

The grant scheme is open to local not-for-profit groups, voluntary groups and charities whose work benefits residents within the St Athan Community Council area. This may include sporting groups, craft groups, children and young people’s groups, adult groups and other community organisations.

Grants will be available up to a maximum of £500 per organisation.

Priority will be given to groups based within the Community Council area. Organisations based outside the area may also apply, but the Council will consider the number of members or beneficiaries who live within the Council’s wards when making a decision.

Who can apply?

Applications may be made by not-for-profit voluntary groups, community groups and charities.

Grants will not be made to:

• Individuals
• Commercial organisations
• Groups operating for private gain

What must be included?

Applications must be made using the official application form. Applicants must explain how the grant will benefit residents in the Community Council area.

Each application must also include a copy of the organisation’s most recent balance sheet.

Applications will be considered throughout the year until the grant budget has been spent. Once the budget has been spent, the grant programme will close until the next financial year.

Groups receiving a grant may be asked to report back to the Council on how the funding was used and should acknowledge the Council’s support where appropriate.
